Sichuan Earthquake Relief
PCCW Global came to the fore in May 2008, when an earthquake struck Sichuan in China, killing more than 68,000. Severe telecoms congestion hampered relief efforts, so we equipped China Red Cross with satellite phones to assist rescue teams. An MPLS connection was also provided so medical personnel in Sichuan could get real-time advice from Hong Kong-based specialists via high-definition video-conferencing.
