Pilot Programme

The All Afloat sailing and boating pilot at Colwyn Bay Watersports Centre CIC, drew on the positive outcomes of a previous pilot project called ‘ Ropes’. ‘Ropes’ was sponsored by the Rotary Club in Conwy County and funded by Gwynt y Mor & Rhyl Flats.

“Whilst the ‘Ropes’ project  was successful in providing first time experiences for young people between the ages of 9 and 11,  it did not provide the pathway into mainstream boating”

– Phil Braden, RYA Cymru Wales CEO

Addressing the issue of a lack of access to the mainstream boating pathway, the All Afloat programme is all about giving young people an opportunity to enjoy sailing and windsurfing in a way that means they will want to carry on enjoying boating for the long term, progressing to ‘sailors’ advancing through to club membership and/or on going “pay to play” participation in local and regional clubs, Sea Cadets or water sport commercial centres.
